Regular Meeting:
The regular monthly meeting of the Mississippi Valley Firefighters Association was held at the Coal Valley Fire
Station on August 21, 2008. The meeting was called to order by President Dave Liebovitz at 6:30 P.M. The Pledge
of Allegiance was recited, then roll call was done. Roll call showed 12 members from 9 departments were present.
The meeting broke for everyone to go outside and look through the MABAS 43 mass casualty trailer that is stationed
at the Arsenal. After touring the trailer, everyone meet inside to eat.

The meeting reconvened at 7:15 P.M. and a moment of silence for fallen firefighters was observed. The
minutes of the last meeting were read, motioned to accept, voted on and accepted. The treasure's report was read.
The checking account balance was $ 882.38 and the savings account balance was $2651.94. Motion to accept
treasures report was made, voted on, and passed.
A motion was made and seconded to honor 4 people with the new Honorary Member degree that was adopted
at the last meeting. Dale Mueller is to have plaques made up for the 4 and they will be presented at the Mississippi
Valley Fire Chiefs Christmas Party in December. There were two positions open on the board and Mike Swanson
and Sam Sandoval were placed on the board taking the place of Kelly Britt and Shad McKay.
The search and Rescue class that was scheduled for September has been cancelled to problems that come up.
There will be a house burn in Atkinson on September 7th, with spot fires being done in the morning and burn in the
afternoon. The house is located on 1400nN, east of the nursing home.
In new business, a motion to change the yearly meeting schedule was made and seconded to have meetings in
January and February and then take July and August off. This will be a trial run this year. Motion voted on and
passed. John Swan brought up several items from the Illinois Firefighters Association. The yearly conference will be
September 19,20,21 in Champaign. Once again they are holding a caucus on Saturday and would like two
delegates from MVFA to attend. The ladies Auxiliary will be have a raffle for the burn camp again this year. John
brought a bunch of empty baskets to give out. The MVFA has consistently been the largest donator of the baskets
for the auction. IFA will be giving out another Down and Dirty training DVD this year. They are having a raffle for the
PAC fund and will be giving away a 42” Plasma TV at the banquet on Saturday night. John wanted everyone to pass
the word out to the younger guys about coming to the training. A motion to pay the motel gill for delegates that will
be attending the conference was made and seconded, voted on and passed. John also announced that he is
hosting a MABAS 39/MVFA 1st annual wiener roast to be held October 4 at Swan Park in Colona. The park is right
across the street from the Methodist Church. It will start at 6:00 P.M. and you are to bring your own lawn chairs and
what you want to drink.

Dave Liebovitz said thank you to the Coal Valley Fire Department for hosting the meeting at their station. Next
meeting will be at the Sherrard Fire Station on September 18, 2008. Board meeting at 6:00 P.M., general
membership meeting starting at 6:30 PM. Meeting adjourned at 8:04 PM.
